HACIENDA XTOJIL

THE 'GREEN GOLD' HACIENDAS IN YUCATAN

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, henequén Yucatán’s so called “green gold” transformed the peninsula. Its tough, export ready fibers were used worldwide for ropes and twine, funding opulent hacienda houses and reshaping Mérida’s boulevards, even as the industry depended on harsh labor systems and later collapsed with the rise of synthetic fibers.

HACIENDA XTOJIL

At Hacienda Xtojil we kept that history at the heart of the project while reimagining the estate for today: the restored casco now houses a restaurant, and the grounds were sensitively adapted into a boutique glamping experience with fifteen luxury tents, a main pool, wellness spaces like a Sound Healing Room, and sustainably sourced materials offering modern comfort immersed in henequén fields.

HACIENCA ´VIVA´ (ALIVE) : SOTUTA DE PEON

Just a short drive away, Hacienda Sotuta de Peón remains one of the region’s best places to experience living history. The restored, working henequén estate offers guided tours and demonstrations of traditional rope making on antique machinery, a living museum, cenotes and cultural experiences that bring the “green gold” era to life for visitors
